All eyes on Book 1 yearlings

Buyers from around the globe will be in Newmarket, England, for the event, which begins today and concludes on Thursday. Renowned for offering the cream of Europe's yearling crop, it was headed last year by a daughter and son of Galileo who were knocked down for 5,000,000gns and 3,600,000gns respectively.

David Redvers, bloodstock and racing manager for Sheikh Fahad, has been buying for Qatar Racing at yearling sales in Britain, France, America and Ireland in recent weeks and is expected to figure this week.

Meanwhile, Qatar Bloodstock stallion Makfi is represented by four yearlings, including a filly (Lot 129) offered today from Peter and Antoinette Kavanagh's Kildaragh Stud, and a half-brother (Lot 194) to Classic-placed Vital Equine from Lady Carolyn Warren's Highclere Stud who goes through the ring tomorrow.

On Thursday the Clover Leaf Stud consigns a Makfi filly (Lot 428) from the family of this year's St Leger winner Kingston Hill, while Highclere Stud consigns another daughter of the stallion (Lot 439), this one a half-sister to Listed winner Observational.
