The Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained son of Teofilo won a conditions race at Leicester in April and then finished a close second in York's Dante Stakes. That performance was given a significant boost yesterday when winner The Grey Gatsby followed up in Chantilly's Gr.1 Prix du Jockey-Club (French Derby).

Aidan O'Brien has left four colts in the big race, headed by likely favourite Australia, while one new name appeared, that of Romsdal, who was supplemented for the contest at a cost of £75,000. Trained by John Gosden, Romsdal was narrowly beaten by the O'Brien-trained Orchestra in the Gr.3 Chester Vase on his latest start.
