Arod was smartly from the barrier at Moonee Valley, but refused to settle and fought jockey Craig Williams down the back stretch. He had nothing left for the home straight and the ten-furlong trip, but the winner, Winx, produced a brilliant performance and broke a course record that had stood since 1998.

David Redvers, Qatar Racing manager who is in Australia, said on Twitter (@dredvers): "Whilst disappointed with Arod it just confirmed that he is a miler and needed the run as he's been taking life a bit too easy! All is well."

Flying Empress could make two public appearances this week, for she runs this afternoon in Newbury's Listed Al Basti Equiworld Celebration Stakes (Radley Stakes) (15.35) and is entered for Tattersalls' Horses-in-Training Sale at Newmarket. The sale opens on Monday at 9.30am, and Flying Empress, trained by Ralph Beckett, is due to go through the ring on Wednesday.

Beckett, who is fitting a visor on Flying Empress, says of the two-year-old: "She looks marvellous and worked well last week."

Oisin Murphy rides Flying Empress, while Freddie Tylicki partners Qatar Racing's other runner, Fourth Way, who won at Yarmouth last month for Roger Varian's stable.

Andrea Atzeni is riding at Doncaster this afternoon where he pulls on Qatar Racing colours to partner Argus in the Bet Through The Racing Post App Handicap (15.10). Argus ran well enough when unplaced at Newmarket earlier this month, for it was his first outing for three months.

Naas maiden winner Blue De Vega has been bought by a Qatar Racing partnership since that victory and runs again this afternoon in the Gr.3 Killavullan Stakes (15.30) at Leopardstown. Colin Keane rides the Michael O'Callaghan-trained runner.
