After debutante Out of The Flames was just touched off in a strong-looking 2-year-old fillies' maiden at Ascot on Friday evening, Black Sails became Qatar Racing's first juvenile winner of the year when scoring impressively at the Curragh on Saturday.

The Ger Lyons-trained Black Sails beat a field largely made up of a colts, travelling powefully and showing a good turn of foot when asked to assert by Colin Keane, and the form looks strong given the second and third horses both had previous experience.

Both fillies look to have Royal Ascot potential, and it certainly bodes well that Ger's two other recent winners of that same conditions race were Cappella Sansevero and Psychedelic Funk, who both went on to be placed in the Coventry Stakes. Black Sails could bid to emulate Qatar Racing's Kiyoshi, who won the Gr. 3 Albany Stakes in 2013 - Bletchley went within inches of achieving the feat last year!

Also on the mark for Qatar Racing on Saturday was Hursley in a 2000m handicap at Caulfield. Hursley's victory was achieved in contrasting fashion to Black Sails', making his challenge from midfield and getting up right on the line in the hands of Daniel Stackhouse. It was Daniel's first time riding 4-year-old Hursley, so plenty of credit goes to him, as well as to the gelding's trainer Chris Waller.

The winners continued on Sunday as Promise of Peace won a maiden over 2200m at Krefeld in Germany on Sunday. The son of King Kamehameha was in front from turning into the home straight and maintained his advantage to the line, which suggests he'll stay further. Promise of Peace is entered in the Gr. 1 Deutsches Derby, as is his stablemate Warring States who won the Gr. 3 Bavarian Classic last time.
