Make Believe again for his sire Makfi

The three-year-old colt was following up his spring victory (pictured) in the Gr.1 Poule d'Essai Des Poulains - the French 2000 Guineas - although today's win was particularly meritorious for it was his first outing since running at Royal Ascot in June. Trainer Andre Fabre is a master of his profession, and he had the colt ready to resume winning ways under Olivier Peslier. A Breeders' Cup bid is now on Make Believe's agenda.

The victory came 24 hours after another of Makfi's sons, two-year-old Return Of The Mak, made a big impression when making his racing debut in a Redcar maiden, and beating eight rivals easily, winning by three and a half lengths. Return Of The Mak is trained by Richard Fahey.

Make Believe, who was bred by Simon and Mags Hope of Aston Mullins Stud, comes from his sire's first crop. He was conceived at Tweenhills Farm and Stud, where Makfi stood for four seasons under the Qatar Bloodstock banner, before switching to HH Aga Khan's Haras de Bonneval for the 2015 covering season. He will remain there next year, but still on the Qatar Bloodstock roster of stallions.

Makfi, a son of outstanding champion sire Dubawi, has been responsible for seven Stakes winners this year, including New Zealand champion juvenile Marky Mark, who has recorded one of three Group One wins for his sire.
