The Kevin Ryan-trained colt finished eleventh of 18 runners behind Makfi's son Make Believe, but was less than eight lengths behind the winner. Given time to mature since, he returns in today's opening race at York, the Gr.3 Betfred Mobile Strensall Stakes (14.00) over a trip just in excess of a mile. Oisin Murphy rides.

Other Stakes race runners today for Qatar Racing and associated partners are Katie's Diamond, who runs in Deauville's Gr.3 Prix du Calvados (14.40), and a trio who line up at the Curragh in Ireland. They are Letters Of Note and Stroll Patrol, who tackle the Gr.3 Renaissance Stakes (15.35) and Bear Cheek, who runs in the Gr.3 Curragh Stakes (16.45) for juveniles.

Pearl Secret, who was unplaced in yesterday's Gr.1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes, had no luck. Drawn high in stall 16, he was left with little pace nearby when Take Cover ducked under the stalls and was withdrawn and Stepper Point pulled up, meaning Murphy had to take him back to get cover.

Meanwhile, the action was on the far side, headed by American speedster Acapulco, who was drawn in 4 and finished second, behind Mecca's Angel drawn 10.

Pearl Secret was found to be slightly lame on pulling up and is thought to have knocked himself during the race - he was later reported to be sound at David Barron's stable.
