Qatar Racing are proud to be supporting the staff from the British Racing School on their sponsored 450 mile bike ride to raise money for the Rory MacDonald Memorial Fund.

Members of staff from the British Racing School are to cycle between seven racecourses in seven days, starting on Sunday 28th May and returning to Newmarket on Saturday 3rd June, which is also Derby Day. In its entirety the trip will cover around 450 miles and the aim is to raise £50,000.

The money raised will go towards funding the training of young people who are seeking a career in horseracing but do not currently qualify for Government funding. Typically, these are young people aged over 19 who are transitioning from other equine sectors.

Chairman of Qatar Racing, Sheikh Fahad, joined staff at the British Racing School for the launch of the ride to wish them good luck.

Sheikh Fahad said: ‚"Qatar Racing is proud to support the BRS team on their seven racecourses in seven days bike ride. We very much recognise the importance of having high quality staff and also that there is currently a demand for such staff, so providing training for stable staff who don't currently qualify for Government funding is a very good cause. We are also delighted to support the Rory Macdonald Memorial Fund.‚"

Grant Harris, Chief Executive of BRS, said: ‚"All in racing are aware of the acute shortage of stable staff. The BRS is training more young people than ever before and these include an increasing number of 19yo+ for whom we receive limited Government funding.

‚"We decided to launch an Appeal Fund named after Rory who did so much to help establish training in our industry. We would like to thank our sponsors and the racecourses who have been very helpful and generous arranging logistics, promotions and accommodation. It's now up to us to meet the challenge we have set ourselves‚".
