Andrea Atzeni rode Bear Cheek, who made a very impressive debut in an 11-runner maiden, putting three lengths between herself and the runner-up. Trainer Ger Lyons acknowledged that as a graduate of Goresbridge's breeze-up sale she was "a tad more forward" than some other members of his juvenile string, but she also showed terrific speed.

Atzeni later wore the same colours on Stroll Patrol in the Listed Yeomanstown Stud Dark Angel Stakes, and, having won at the weekend, she was sent off favourite. However, she could only stay on at one pace to finish fourth, while Letters Of Note took the prize.

Michael O'Callaghan, who trains the winner, praised jockey Pat Smullen when telling the Racing Post: "Pat gave her a super ride. He said they were going too slow in front and he had to go for her. He said the better the race, the better she'll be - she has a lot of speed. She's a big filly and being by Azamour she'll keep improving."

Letters Of Note was bought in the sales ring by her trainer on behalf of a partnership, but was acquired privately by Pearl Bloodstock earlier this year following her maiden win at Dundalk.

Horses running for the team today include Flying Empress, who lines up in Sandown's Irish Champions Weekend EBF Stallions Star Stakes (15.30), a Listed race which has attracted a talented field of eight fillies. The Ralph Beckett-trained Flying Empress won nicely at Windsor on her debut in May.
