Qatar Bloodstock-homebred Adalene converted several near-misses into an emphatic victory at Newcastle this afternoon.

Wearing blinkers for the first time the three-year-old daughter of Makfi bolted in by six lengths for the combination of trainer David Simcock (pictured right, yellow tie) and rider Tom Eaves. The Racing Post comment reads: ‚"Held up in touch, smooth headway to lead over 2f out, soon quickened clear on bridle, drifted to far rail inside final furlong, very easily.‚"

Eaves was quoted by the paper's racecourse correspondent saying: ‚"The blinkers worked and Adalene did that well; it was like a piece of work.‚"

Simcock applied the blinkers to focus the filly's mind at the business end of the race, and the plan paid off as she beat seven rivals with ease, finishing six lengths ahead of the Alan Swinbank-trained runner-up Codeshare, with another length and a half back to On Fire from James Bethell's stable.

Adalene's triumph was a fine way to end 2016 for Qatar Racing and Qatar Bloodstock, whose next runner will be Portman at Flemington in Australia on New Year's Day.
