Cornwallville such a great advert for Makfi
The son of Makfi has been in action since the opening day of the turf season at Doncaster and been in the care of three trainers, yet he showed, on his fourteenth run this year, that he retains his enthusiasm and ability. Trained initially by Stan Moore, he was claimed by trainer David Windrif after winning a race in France, and was then bought privately by Sheikh Fahad's Pearl Bloodstock.
Transferred to Francis Graffard he has upped his game again to win a Stakes race, and prove a fine ambassador for his sire, who has left Tweenhills Farm and Stud to stand in France at Haras de Bonneval next season. His fee will be €17,500 (Oct 1, SLF).
Today's racing at Lingfield will see the reappearance of Snowmane following his sale by Qatar Racing at the recent Tattersalls Autumn Horses-in-Training auction in Newmarket.
He runs in the Listed Coral Churchill Stakes (14.35) after being bought for 210,000gns by James Given on behalf of the Cool Silk Partnership. The 10-furlong contest is a Fast-Track Qualifier for the £200,000 Coral Easter Classic over the same course and distance on All-Weather Championships Finals Day, Good Friday, April 3.
A three-year-old son of Galileo, Snowmane had been with Ger Lyons in Ireland where he won two of his eight starts, including last time out when storming to a five-length victory in an extended 10-furlong handicap on Polytrack at Dundalk.
Given reported: "Snowmane has settled in fine and is obviously a gelding so he comes without some of the issues a colt would have.
"He has had one gallop at home for us which went nicely and we are happy with him. It is always nice to get one by Galileo as he is the world's best sire and they are nice horses.
"I think we will look at a domestic programme with him. He has been bought with the Winter Derby Trial and Winter Derby in mind and then next summer, who knows. One would hope he has the ability to be running in good races maybe abroad, but also in this country."
Jamie Spencer rides Snowmane, and also partners two runners for Qatar Racing on the card. He will be on Chemical Charge (11.50) and God Willing (13.25), having won on the Olly Stevens-trained Heisman at the same track yesterday.
