Epsom Impact set to shake up 8 to Follow
On the eve of the two-day Epsom meeting, Mary Redvers leads by 10pts from three rivals who have four 'stables' between them, Sheikh Fahad owning two.
Mrs Redvers will reap a bumper 80pts if Arod, who is in her stable, wins the Derby, although the Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained colt is also popular in a number of other lists. Bertie Butler, who is among the chasing posse in second, also has Arod on his side.
Alex Storrer, another in joint-second, is not represented in the Derby, but she will be hoping Lightning Stride wins again when running in Saturday's Investec Woodcote Stakes (2.05), a Listed race and therefore worth extra points. Lightning Stride, trained by Brian Meehan, is one of the four juveniles in Storrer's string.
The 8 to Follow competition closed on the eve of the QIPCO Guineas meeting and runs until QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot in October. The winning stable gains £10,000, and all profits go to the charity Racing Welfare.
Arod, the mount of Jamie Spencer, was confirmed a runner in the big race when overnight declarations closed today. Snow Sky, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, was ruled out, enabling jockey James Doyle to take the spare ride on Godolphin's Pinzolo. Sixteen horses are set to go to post, headed by favourite Australia, the mount of Joseph O'Brien - Arod is generally available at odds of between 14/1 and 16/1.
