Qatar Racing's Wayside Flower made a very promising start to her racing career when second at Naas yesterday evening.

In a field of 13 the Ger Lyons-trained filly was held up by jockey Colin Keane before launching a challenge in the final furlong and pressing eventual winner Cuff - from Aidan O'Brien's stable - to the line. A mere short-head separated the pair, and Lyons later reported the filly had eaten up after the race.

Wayside Flower's effort has resulted in a clear leader in Qatar Racing's 2016 8 to Follow competition, which opened on QIPCO 2000 Guineas Day. Harald Bischoff had the foresight to include the filly in his stable, and the ten points she earned for finishing second has lifted him to a total of 70pts and the role of early pacesetter.

There are no Qatar Racing or Pearl Bloodstock runners today, but War Of Succession becomes the next juvenile runner when making his debut at Newbury tomorrow (13.30) for Andrew Balding's stable.
