Pearl Dragon began the winning streak at Longchamp where he won for trainer Mikel Delzangles and jockey Umberto Rispoli. The four-year-old, a full-brother to Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden - who also carried Pearl Bloodstock's colours - was landing his third win from five starts.

Making Shapes, a son of Qatar Bloodstock stallion Makfi, then romped home for trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam at Newcastle. A £70,000 purchase at Goffs London Sale in association with QIPCO, the three-year-old won by six lengths under Oisin Murphy.

At Dundalk's evening meeting the Ger Lyons-trained Birdcage ran out a ready winner of a fillies' maiden under Colin Keane. A £40,000 purchase at DBS, Birdcage could head to Royal Ascot after this smart win on her second outing.

Newton Abbot in Devon, a racecourse that had not hitherto been associated with a runner from Qatar Racing or Pearl Bloodstock, hosted Britain's only handicap hunters' chase yesterday evening. Current Event, who was bought privately by David Redvers in March, made light of top weight to win convincingly in the hands of amateur rider Bryony Frost. Eight-year-old Current Event, who is trained by Rose Loxton, could run again next week at Stratford's Friday evening meeting when hunters' chases top the bill.
