Frankel filly Tiger Eye breaks her maiden
Tiger Eye, a four-year-old filly by Frankel, shed her maiden tag at Wolverhampton on Monday night on just her second start.
Tiger Eye had shaped encouragingly when a close second over seven furlongs at Wolverhampton in mid-December and she returned to the same course and distance to record a smooth win, beating last-time-out winners Minoria and Dawn Delight by two and a half lengths and the same. She was given a good ride by George Wood and has been excellently handled so far by James Fanshawe and his team.
It is likely that Tiger Eye will have a date in the breeding shed at Tweenhils in the coming weeks and then briefly return to training - once a mare has been covered she has another 120 days to run in races before she must be retired. Tiger Eye is a half-sister to high-class sprinters Spirit Quartz (who won the Gr. 2 Prix du Gros-Chene for Qatar Racing) and Caspian Prince, while her close relation St Peters Basilica (by Galileo) also won last week.
