Gladius, part-owned by Qatar Racing, was the clear sales-topper at the 2025 Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale when selling for 950,000gns. He will continue his career carrying the colours of Wathnan Racing.

Gladius only made his debut in April, overcoming odds of 999/1 in-running to get up late at Kempton. He then won handicaps at Sandown and Goodwood before improving again to finish in the frame in a pair of Gr.3s.

His latest effort when a ¾-length second to Damysus in the Darley Stakes at Newmarket clearly caught the eye of Damysus’ owners Wathnan Racing as they bought Gladius last week through Blandford Bloodstock.

Gladius had been bought as a yearling for 250,000gns at Tattersalls Book 1 Sale by Qatar Racing / China Horse Club as was owned until last week by Qatar BS, China Horse Club & David Howden. He will reportedly continue to be trained by Andrew Balding.

Qatar Racing’s 2024 Gr.1 winner New Century was also sold at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale, making 390,000gns. He also sold to Blandford Bloodstock but is set to continue his career in Dubai, where his half-brother Passion And Glory has raced for the past five winters.

Other horses owned or part-owned by Qatar Racing who sold at the sale were Hit Squad, Gunship and Scotland, who fetched a combined 102,000gns. We wish all their new connections the best of luck.
