Jamie on board at Shergar Cup

A high-profile jockeys' competition, the Shergar Cup comprises four teams of three riders representing Britain and Ireland, Europe, the Rest of the World and a women's trio. The jockeys wear silks that denote which team they are representing, rather than those of each horse's owner.

In the opening Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash (12.55) over five furlongs, Green Door - who recently switched stables from Olly Stevens to Robert Cowell - will be ridden by Jamie Spencer, who captains the Britain and Ireland team, and who has ridden Green Door in six of his 20 races. The likely favourite is Double Up, the mount of Australian Blake Shinn, who has not ridden in Britain before.

Ironically, Spencer also drew the mount on Halation, another horse he has ridden in the past for Qatar Racing Ltd.

Halation runs in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile (14.40), and has a favourite's chance, although Directorship, who will be ridden by Japan's Yutaka Take for the Rest of the World, won at Newmarket last time out and is an obvious danger despite a 3lb rise in the handicap.

Qatar Racing has two Stakes runners today - Queen Catrine runs for Charlie Hills' stable in the Listed Betfred TV/EBF Stallions Dick Hern Fillies' Stakes at Haydock (15.25), which has drawn 11 runners. Queen Catrine, who will be ridden by Danny Tudhope, wears blinkers for the first time.

At Newmarket, Opal Tiara lines up in the Gr.3 German Thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes (15.35) for two-year-olds. Trained by Mick Channon and ridden by Oisin Murphy, Opal Tiara has run well in defeat on her three most recent outings, and was beaten just two lengths when fourth in Listed company at Newmarket last month. Today she steps up to seven furlongs for the first time.
