There was a Makfi Saturday double on opposite sides of the globe for horses that race under the Qatar Racing and Qatar Bloodstock banners.

In Australia the Chris Waller-trained Hursley gave weight and a beating to his rivals in an Aus$80,000 handicap at Caulfield, while at Beverley in the north of England the filly Lime And Lemon won for Charlie McBride's stable. She will be going under the hammer in Newmarket this week when Tattersalls holds its annual July Sale.

A son of Qatar Bloodstock stallion Makfi, Hursley is owned in partnership with his trainer, who said: ‚"It is great to have him back in winning form. Craig [Williams, jockey] was very impressed and said at no stage did he think he was going to lose. He will head back to Caulfield in two weeks for an identical race.‚"

Lime And Lemon, a three-year-old daughter of Makfi, had been threatening to break her duck, and duly did so in a 14-runner fillies' handicap over ten furlongs. Adam McNamara rode Lime And Lemon, who will be offered at the July Sale on Wednesday as Lot 305.

Not only is she now a winner, but she has pedigree, too, being out of a half-sister to Group One winners Lord Shanakill and Together Forever.

Lime And Lemon is one of seven horses connected to Qatar Racing or associates partners who is being offered this week from the consignment of Jamie Railton the list can be found on the home page of this website under 'Horses' and 'Horses for Sale'.

At Sandown the Sir Mark Prescott-trained Pallasator (pictured below) finished a close fourth in the Listed Coral Marathon, and, with a clear run, might well have taken the winner's prize.

Giving weight to the three horses that finished ahead of him, Pallasator was grinding his way to victory when baulked in his run at the furlong marker. Despite the lack of a clear passage he was beaten little more than a length and a quarter by the winner, Sandro Botticelli.

The Qatar Goodwood Cup (July 28) is one possible target for the gelding.
