O'Callaghan spies black type for Spy
The Michael O'Callaghan-trained Spy Ring goes in search of black type today following a trip across the Irish Sea.
She is one of 10 runners and the only one trained in Ireland for the Listed Irish Stallion Farms 'Bosra Sham' EBF Fillies' Stakes (15.00) at Newmarket, a race which remembers one of the many great fillies trained by the late Henry Cecil.
Some well-bred horses join the line-up, all seeking a Stakes-race win or place that would add to their value as broodmares. That is the plan for Spy Ring, and O'Callaghan (pictured right) says: ‚"She seems to have come out of her Naas race in good order and has travelled to Newmarket well. I'd be very hopeful of picking up some black type.‚"
Spy Ring won on debut at Cork in May and then performed creditably when unplaced but not beaten far in Stakes races at Naas and the Curragh. Two weeks ago she returned to Naas and was beaten a head when second in a nursery, prompting plans for the trip to British racing's 'headquarters'. Oisin Murphy rides her today for the first time in public.
