Proctor in hat-trick bid at Haydock
A son of Qatar Bloodstock stallion Makfi could land his third straight success at Haydock Park this afternoon.
Proctor, who is trained in Devon by Stuart Kittow, enters the unknown by stepping up to one mile and six furlongs for the Jeremy Kyle Handicap (16.30), having won twice over a mile and a quarter. He has not run since August 4, because Kittow was keen to avoid ground that was too firm, but he is unworried about the extra distance today.
Kittow says: ‚"I am looking forward to running him over further as I think staying will be his forte.‚" Proctor faces six rivals, including Godolphin's Parliamentarian, who is also chasing a third straight victory.
Makfi, who is currently shuttling to Westbury Stud in New Zealand, has been responsible for seven Stakes-race winners around the World in 2016, most recently with Noor Al Hawa, who won a Group Three race in Germany.
Also running at Haydock for Qatar Racing is the Henry Candy-trained Sun Angel, who tackles a fillies' maiden (15.20). After finishing a very good second at Windsor she disappointed on Chelmsford's all-weather track, but a return to her best form would make her difficult to beat this afternoon.
On the Tapeta surface at Newcastle this evening19.45), Pearl Bloodstock's High Honcho runs in a fillies' handicap (19.45) for trainer John Quinn. Tom Eaves, who recently rode the filly in a piece of work at Malton, is once more in the saddle.
