Redvers crosses line in Mongol Derby
David Redvers has completed the 1,000km Mongol Derby, the world's most gruelling horse race.
On day eight of the race the head of Tweenhills stud and racing manager to Qatar Racing reached the finishing line at 16.50 local time in company with three other riders Alexandra Hardham (GB), Shannon Nott (Aus) and Alice Newling (GB). They finished behind the triple dead-heating winners William Comiskey (Aus), Marcia Hefker-Miles (USA) and Heidi Telstad (Canada), who reached the line ahead of Britons Venetia Philipps and Tatiana Mountbatten. Following that pair in was America's Courtney Kizer.
Redvers said: "I can honestly say it's the most amazing experience of my life. The scenery is beyond anything I can imagine, my riding companions were the best fun, but the ponies are the most incredible animals on the planet. To ride a Mongolian pony flat out for 15km here is the closest you get to flying. I am completely and totally emotionally drained but at the same time exhilarated by the experience."
Still on the course and heading towards the finish are two other Qatar Racing team members, Ireland's Peter Molony and Gareth Jones.
For team Qatar Racing the effort is proving worth every gruelling kilometre for the money they are raising to support injured jockeys. Please support our Mongol Derby riders in their efforts to complete the course and raise money for injured jockeys on both sides of the Irish Sea simply click on their 'Just Giving' page at the following link https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/QatarRacing.
You can do so at any time during the race, and the page will remain open after it is completed.
