Rich Legacy reappears in Cheshire Oaks
Qatar Racing's May Hill Stakes winner Rich Legacy makes her return in the Listed Arkle Finance Cheshire Oaks on Wednesday, day one of the Chester's May meeting.
Rich Legacy made a successful debut at Newmarket last August and, after finishing fourth in the Prestige Stakes, she improved again when winning the Gr. 2 Clugston Construction May Hill Stakes at Doncaster in September by three quarters of a lengths from Grecian Light. Two and a quarter lengths further away in third was Urban Fox who was later third in the Fillies' Mile and recently finished midfield in the 1000 Guineas.
Rich Legacy wasn't at her best in Gr. 1s in her two subsequent outings last year, but her trainer Ralph Beckett is very happy with how she's progressed recently and hopefully she will bounce back to her best. She' promises to be well suited by the step up in trip.
The big two Rich Legacy who must carry a 5 lb penalty for her Gr. 2 win has to beat are Enable and Alluringly, the latter representing the Aidan O'Brien yard that has won this five times. Subsequent Gr. 1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Diamondsandrubies took the Cheshire Oaks in 2015, while last year's winner Somehow landed her fifth career success in the Gr. 2 Charm Spirit Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket on Sunday.
Also in action at the recent QIPCO Guineas Festival was Qatar Racing's Son of The Stars, who was a very close second in the QIPCO Racing Welfare Handicap over a mile. His trainer Richard Hannon said: ‚"Son of The Stars came through nicely on the bridle down to the 2f marker, but he got lost heading into the Dip, switching leads and giving ground away to the eventual winner. Once he hit the rising ground he came back at the leader and would have got his head in front in a couple of more strides. He will improve again and should make into an ideal Brittania type.‚"
Treasuring will be Qatar Racing's second 2-year-old runner of the year when she takes part in a five-furlong maiden at Dundalk on Tuesday. Trained by Ger Lyons, Treasuring is by Qatar Bloodstock's first-season sire Havana Gold, who was responsible for his third winner when Marchingontogether made a winning debut at Leicester on Tuesday evening.
