Sheikh Fahad in thick of the race
Photographs of Sheikh Fahad competing in the 1,000km Mongol Derby have been released.
The Sheikh (pictured in action below) remains in the race at the end of day four (Sunday), and his Qatar Racing team mates David Redvers and Peter Molony are within striking distance of the leaders the group is raising money for injured jockeys on both sides of the Irish Sea.
Riders pass through 27 Urtuus (stations) on their way to the finishing line, and a trio of riders are camping overnight between U14 and U15. Four riders are at U14, while Redvers and Molony are among a group of six who are camping between U13 and U14. Chips Broughton (at U13) and Gareth Jones (between U12 and U13) are also still in the contest for Qatar Racing.
Reputedly the toughest horse race, the Mongol Derby is taking its toll if photographs of gaunt and grimy faces are an indication. Heavy rain, a restricted diet and variable sleeping opportunities have added to the test, and luck plays a part when riders have to select new ponies every 35km.
Please support our Mongol Derby riders in their efforts to complete the course and raise money for injured jockeys simply click on their 'Just Giving' page at the following link https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/QatarRacing. You can do so at any time during the race, and the page will remain open after it is completed.
