Definition of 'Corinthian': Involving the highest standards of amateur sportsmanship

Sheikh Fahad won his second race of the year when landing the third and final leg of the Corinthian Challenge at Leopardstown today (pictured right).

Victory on the Gordon Elliott-trained Labaik followed a win at Newmarket in July when Sheikh Fahad landed the famous Newmarket Town Plate on Almagest, trained by Robert Stephens.

Today's win proved relatively easy, for Labaik scored by 14 lengths and his rider clearly enjoyed every moment of the final furlong, celebrating the winning feeling as he approached the finish post. It was his first win in the three leg series, which was organised to help raise funds for Irish Injured Jockeys.

Qatar Racing's Ireland representative, Peter Molony, has posted some photographs of today's race, and a clip of film showing Labaik galloping to victory. Click on the following link: https://twitter.com/Pmolony1Peter

Qatar Racing manager David Redvers also took part in a fund-raising race today, and he too enjoyed a great spin when second at Aintree in a race organised by the Countryside Alliance Foundation.

Riding the Ger Lyons-trained Chapter Seven, Redvers chased home Ryan Mania, the retired jockey who won the 2013 Grand National at the same Liverpool racecourse.

Redvers had been on starvation rations ahead of the race, but his 6ft 2in frame is not built for Flat racing, and he put up 8lb overweight, a burden that may well have cost Chapter Seven victory.
