Treasuring and Warfare return to winning ways
There were two winners in two days for Qatar Racing as Treasuring won on Friday and Naval Warfare scored on Saturday.
Juvenile filly Treasuring (pictured) made it two wins from five starts when making all in a nursery at Tipperary on Friday evening, defying a mark of 91 on her first start in such a race. The Ger Lyons-trained daughter of Qatar Bloodstock's Havana Gold has raced solely over five furlongs so far, but she's bred to stay further, her dam a seven-furlong winner, so she has the option of stepping up in trip. She deserves another go in Stakes company and has a few possible targets, including the Listed Blenheim Stakes at Fairyhouse on September 20.
Colin Keane was excellent from the front on Treasuring, and so was Oisin Murphy on Naval Warfare, who appreciated being able to dominate for the first time since his winning return at Leicester when beating fellow 3-year-olds in a handicap off 92 at Newmarket on Saturday afternoon. The Andrew Balding-trained Naval Warfare is a likeable son of Born To Sea who enjoys getting his toe into the ground, and there will be more races to be won with him.
Qatar Racing also had a Listed runner-up on Friday when Lethal Steps fared best of the rest behind Ballet Shoes in the Coolmore Ivawood Stakes at Tipperary. It was disappointing that Lethal Steps lost his unbeaten record, but the winner could be very good, and Lethal Steps is still a raw horse according to Colin Keane, who also thought the ground was soft enough for the son of Lethal Force. He remains a young colt with plenty of potential.
Qatar Racing's seven runners in Ireland in the last week recorded four wins and three seconds.
