Another Gr. 2 win as Now Or Later gets up just in time
Qatar Racing's Now Or Later got up in the shadow of the post in the Gr. 2 Blazer Stakes over 1400m at Flemington on Saturday.
On the same card as the mighty Winx recorded her 21st win on the spin in scintillating fashion, Now Or Later also got racegoers' pulses racing with a last-gasp win.
Formerly known as Now Or Never when trained by Michael O'Callaghan in Ireland, where she won a Gr. 3 1,000 Guineas Trial last year and finished third in the Gr. 1 Irish 1,000 Guineas itself, Now Or Later is now trained by Robert Smerdon in Australia.
She lined up as a 9/1 shot for the Gr. 2 Blazer Stakes but ultimately won with a bit up her sleeve, coming very late under an ice-cool Ryan Maloney to score by a long neck.
Robert said after the race: "She had really good form in Ireland. She disappointed in the autumn but I reckon acclimatisation was a bit of it and coming back off a break she was good first-up and better again today. She's now a Group winner in two hemispheres so that gives her a lot of value."
Now Or Later could now have booked her place in the Gr. 1 Myer Stakes back at Flemington next month.
