Century a New Stakes winner for Kameko

Qatar Racing's leading first-season sire Kameko sired his first Stakes winner when homebred New Century won the Listed Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury on Wednesday.

New Century has improved in chunks and bettered his second place in the Listed Pat Eddery Stakes with victory in the Listed Stonehenge over 1m at Salisbury.

Given a fine front-running ride by our retained rider Oisin Murphy, New Century again showed an excellent attitude to come out on top, just as he had at Doncaster in June.

New Century won by a cosy half-length from debut winner by Frankel, Luther, with 5 lengths back to Ballydoyle's son of Kingman, The Parthenon.

Godolphin had won the last 3 renewals of the Stonehenge, including with one-time 2024 Derby favourite Arabian Crown, but the best winner of the race since it’s 2007 inception was arguably Elm Park.

Like New Century, Elm Park was trained by Andrew Balding and won the Gr.2 Royal Lodge Stakes and Gr.1 Racing Post Trophy (now the Kameko Futurity Trophy).

Kameko has had 10 individual winners, inc. other Stakes performers Rajeko and Wimbledon Hawkeye and Monday’s debut winner Likely Perspective.

New Century was born, raised and grazed at Tweenhills. He’s out of the dual winner Potent Embrace (by Street Cry) who has also produced Gr.3 winner Passion And Glory.
