Gr. 2 Hardwicke Stakes third Chemical Charge landed his second win of the season at Musselburgh on Friday evening.

Trained by Ralph Beckett, Chemical Charge had produced a cracking effort - just about his best on ratings - when just behind Idaho and Barsanti at Royal Ascot last month, and he got back to winning ways from five rivals at the Scottish track.

Chemical Charge was entitled to win this conditions stakes given he was the best horse on the figures and was sent off at odds-on, but he did it in really smooth fashion under Philip Makin, and the performance will have teed the five-year-old up nicely for a return to Stakes races.

Chemical Charge could even go on his travels in the coming months, with US Grade 1 races among his options as his ideal conditions seem to be a mile and a half on fast ground.

The strong-travelling son of Sea The Stars has actually only finished outside of the first three once from his 12 start and is a valued member of the Qatar Racing team.
