Classic colts for Makfi at Longchamp
Make Believe, who is trained by Andre Fabre for Prince Faisal, and the Pearl Bloodstock-owned Cornwallville (pictured), from Francis Graffard's stable, are among 18 horses in the line-up, which also includes Flaming Spear (Lope De Vega), who carries the colours of Qatar Racing and Essafinaat.
Flaming Spear won his only start as a two-year-old, but was disappointing when only ninth on his seasonal debut at Newbury last month when firm ground seemed a valid excuse for the performance - easier conditions at Longchamp should suit the colt who is ridden by Andrea Atzeni. Cornwallville showed no ill effects after a long juvenile season when he ran 14 times, for he won a Listed race at Toulouse when making his first start of 2015, while Make Believe won both his two-year-old starts and finished third in the Gr.3 Prix Djebel on his initial run this year.
Makfi, whose other runners this weekend include the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum-ownedAstrelle in the Gr.3 Chartwell Fillies' Stakes (16.05) at Lingfield - in which Kiyoshi and Lightning Thunder represent the Al Thani family - was responsible for two impressive first-crop winners yesterday. Ijmaalywon by 12 lengths on his debut at Lingfield for Godolphin, while Raw Impulse scored in style at Nottingham for Qatar Racing.
Qatar Racing's Hot Streak and Pearl Secret are also in action at Longchamp tomorrow when they run in the Gr.3 Prix de Saint Georges (16.30).
