Early arrival a first for Charm Spirit

Monday 18 January 2016

The brilliant miler began stallion duties at Tweenhills last year, and it was his mating with the mare Valonia (pictured with her foal) which resulted in the newcomer, a filly described by Tweenhills' head David Redvers as, "a smart foal who has lots of quality and class".

Valonia was a very smart racehorse, trained by Henry Candy for Qatar Racing and a winner and placed at Listed level. She also finished third in the Gr.2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket, and on her final start took fourth in the Gr.3 Sceptre Stakes behind Qatar Racing's Kiyoshi.

Triple Group One winner Charm Spirit is standing alongside Qatar Bloodstock's Makfi at Haras de Bonneval in France for his second season.

He raced for Sheikh Fahad's father, H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, and recorded a hat-trick of Group One victories, namely the Prix Jean Prat, Prix du Moulin de Longchamp and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, making him one of the best milers since the turn of the millennium.
