Jamie Spencer (pictured on Arod) has great faith in the colt, and following his brave fourth in the Epsom Derby was keen he should get a confidence-boosting win on his next start. Today's three-runner At The Races Sky 415 Conditions race seemed the perfect platform and it duly proved to be so, with Arod sauntering home nine lengths clear of runner-up Spark Plug and a further 21 lengths ahead of outsider Sir Jack Layden.
The result was not only satisfying for Spencer, owners Qatar Racing and trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam, but also for George Oborne, whose lead in the 8 to Follow competition was strengthened by the victory.
Oborne, who included Arod in his pace-making stable, picked up another 20pts to inch further clear, while Henry Rogers, another Arod fan, moved into a clear second place. Bertie Butler moved up to joint-third.
