Golden afternoon in prospect at Ascot
Golden Horn, the unbeaten Epsom Derby winner, is the stand-out horse on the card, and his bid to win the big race is a prospect to savour - he faces eight rivals and will be ridden by Frankie Dettori in the colours of owner-breeder Anthony Oppenheimer.
Qatar Racing has two runners on the card, starting with Rocket Punch, a son of Qatar Bloodstock stallion Makfi, who lines up in the Weatherbys Private Banking Handicap (14.40).
Trainer Andrew Balding is happy that the rain which fell yesterday has produced ground that will suit the three-year-old, who scored at Kempton on his most recent outing.
Suzi's Connoisseur represents Qatar Racing in the Gigaset International Heritage Handicap (15.15), and trainer Stuart Williams says: "You always need a bit of luck in running in this sort of race, but if all goes well he should be competitive."
Drawn in stall one of the 29 runners, Suzi's Connoisseur will wear a visor for the first time, and while he has not won since October last year, he ran very respectably when sixth of 17 on his latest start, which was at Newmarket.
