Homebred Del Ray another Kameko winner
Fresh from Wimbledon Hawkeye winning at Kempton on Wednesday evening, Kameko sired his second winner when Qatar Racing homebred Del Ray made a winning debut in a 7f fillies’ maiden on the turf at Lingfield on Thursday.
Listed-winning Holy Roman Emperor mare An Ghalanta has been such a superb producer, dam of 2yo Stakes winners Time Scale and Miaharris, as well as narrow Albany Stakes runner-up Bletchley, and her first unison with Kameko produced Del Ray.
Del Ray lined up against 11 rivals at Lingfield, including 8 fellow newcomers, and despite jumping the path across the track, got to the front 100yds from the line. Much like Wimbledon Hawkeye, Del Ray showed an excellent attitude in victory under Oisin Murphy. She is trained by Archie Watson in Lambourn.
Whilst there’s speed in Del Ray’s pedigree, her sire only ran over 7f+ and her dam has also produced 7f+ winners Bletchley, Skontonovksi, Villa Maria and Elegant Annie.
Del Ray was conceived, born, raised and grazed at Tweenhills, her dam with a Kameko yearling colt and her daughter Time Scale –who is also at Tweenhills – the dam of Zoustar 2yo filly Cloud Street, who showed ability on recent debut for Archie Watson and Qatar Racing Limited.
