Karpino's Classic win first for Murphy

A Classic race, Germany's equivalent to the QIPCO 2,000 Guineas, it provided a first win at that level for jockey Oisin Murphy, 19, and followed up a big-race success for Pearl Secret and Classic placing for Endless Drama on Saturday.

A three-year-old son of Cape Cross, Karpino, won easily, crossing the line four and a half lengths ahead of British challenger Fanciful Angel from Marco Botti's stable - ten ran, including Qatar Racing's Cappella Sansevero, who finished eighth after hitting trouble in running.

Winning trainer Andreas Wohler was quoted by the Racing Post, saying: "It's most likely the German Derby will now be next on his [Karpino's] rogramme, but he is entered in every big race. He definitely stays and all the big mile and a half races will be options."

Karpino, who runs in the colours of Sheikh Fahad's Pearl Bloodstock, was purchased privately shortly before winning the Gr.3 Dr Busch Memorial at Krefeld under Andrea Atzeni.
