Lightning Spear, winner of the 2018 Gr.1 Sussex Stakes and who stands at Tweenhills, has made a successful transition from racehorse to stallion with his first mare having scanned in foal.

Top-class miler Lightning Spear, who became Champion older miler in 2016, is a son of Pivotal, a proven sire of sires and outstanding broodmare sire. Lightning Spear joined Qatar Racing's stallion roster alongside fellow new recruit Roaring Lion, World Champion three-year-old of 2018 and Cartier Horse of The Year, whose first mares were scanned in foal last week.

Lightning Spear won the 2018 Gr.1 Sussex Stakes, was placed in a further seven Gr.1 races, and is a dual Gr.2 winner. His illustrious career on the track saw him defeat 39 Gr.1 winners, including Classic winners Awtaad and Galileo Gold.

Lightning Spear has over 100 mares in his first book, including Gr.2 Queen Mary Stakes winner Langs Lash (the dam of Listed winner Jolly Convergence) and fellow Stakes winners Dark Reckoning, Onlyyouknowme and Semayyel, as well as the dams of Gr.1 winners Total Gallery and Treasure Beach.

David Redvers, Qatar Racing Manager and Owner and Manager of Tweenhills, said: ‚"Lightning Spear has a tremendous book of well over 100 mares and is the ultimate professional in his new career.‚"

Lightning Spear's fee for 2019 is £8,500 (Oct 1st SLF).

The Qatar Racing stallion roster is completed by Australian sensation Zoustar, leading British based first season sire of 2018, Charm Spirit, Gr.1-winning sire of 2018, Havana Gold, and Hot Streak, who has his first two-year-olds this year.
