Lightning Spear will become just the second horse to win two renewals of Goodwood's Gr. 2 Celebration Mile if successful on Saturday.

Lightning Spear finished placed in a Gr. 1 for the fourth time when a close third in the Sussex Stakes (pictured) at the Qatar Goodwood Festival three weeks ago, and he returns to the course to try and win his second Grosvenor Sport Celebration Mile Stakes.

The David Simcock-trained Lightning Spear beat Zonderland in the Celebration Mile 12 months ago, and the same rival will take him on again. Also in the line-up are Gr. 2 winners Richard Pankhurst and Opal Tiara, Gr. 3 winner Hathal and Listed winner Oh This Is Us, but Lightning Spear is the best of them on ratings. Zonderland had no answer to Lightning Spear's turn of foot in last year's Celebration Mile and we are hoping for more of the same at 3.20pm on Saturday.

It will hopefully prove a fruitful 35 minutes for Oisin Murphy as, after riding Lightning Spear, he takes the mount on Count Octave in the Listed Goodwood Revival March Stakes. The pair finished second in the Gr. 2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot last time, and that form was franked when the winner and sixth went on to finish first and third in the Gr. 1 Goodwood Cup. Count Octave missed the Great Voltigeur in the week because the ground was too soft, so hopefully he gets suitable conditions at Goodwood.

Qatar Racing will also have a Stakes runner on York's Ebor card as Out of The Flames bids to quickly bounce back after getting stuck in the mud in a similar race at Newbury just over a week ago. She takes on colts for the first time in the Listed Julia Graves Roses Stakes and Martin Lane takes the ride.
