Moore bids to make History
Ace jockey Ryan Moore makes a rare appearance in Qatar Racing colours at Lingfield today.
Moore, three-times champion jockey in Britain, but recognised as one of the world's best at his trade, partners the John Gosden-trained American History for Qatar Racing in a maiden (14.40) over ten furlongs.
American History, a son of High Chaparral and a breeze-up purchase last year, was ridden by Frankie Dettori when finishing third on his racing debut at Yarmouth in October, and a month later finished runner-up under Robert Tart at Wolverhampton. He wore cheekpieces for the first time on that occasion, but will run in blinkers today.
Of the ten runners the likely favourite is Fashion Business, a son of Frankel, and second for Roger Charlton's yard on his debut at Lingfield earlier this month. Like American History, Fashion Business is stepping up in trip, but should handle the extra distance.
Qatar Bloodstock will be represented by two runners at Flemington in Australia tomorrow. Pearl Congenial runs in a three-year-old fillies' handicap (13.00 local time, 02.00 in UK), while Portman tackles a 1600m handicap (15.45 local, 04.45 in UK).
Portman, trained by Danny O'Brien, ran a cracker when second at Flemington on New Year's Day he faces ten rivals and will be ridden by Ben Allen while the Robert Smerdon-trained Pearl Congenial has won her two most recent starts (in November and December). Craig Williams rides her against eight rivals.
