2022 Qatar Racing stallion fees announced
Stud fees for the four Qatar Racing stallions standing at Tweenhills in Gloucestershire have been announced.
International sire sensation Zoustar will stand for £25,000 (Oct 1st SLF) in 2022. Zoustar is now one of the most exciting young sires in the world and stands for a fee of A$154,000 in his native Australia. His first Northern Hemisphere yearlings were extremely well received at this year’s sales, averaging £76,305 – over three times his covering fee – and he had 16 yearlings sell for over £100,000 in Europe in 2021.
QIPCO 2000 Guineas winner Kameko will stand for £20,000 (Oct 1st SLF) – down from £25,000. The fastest 2000 Guineas winner in history with a time of 1min 34.72secs, Kameko also won the Gr.1 Vertem Futurity Stakes as a two-year-old in record time. He successfully gave weight to top-class older horses in the Gr.2 Joel Stakes earning a career high Timeform rating of 129.
The son of Kitten’s Joy covered an outstanding first book of 120 mares in 2021, including over 50% Stakes performers or producers, and the siblings of 15 Gr.1 winners. Mares covered by Kameko include the dams of Gr.1 winners Defoe, Elm Park and Lucky Speed, as well as 40 Stakes performers including dual Gr.1 winner Con Te Partiro.
Havana Gold will now stand for £12,500 (Oct 1st SLF). The leading sire of 2-year-olds in Great Britain this year, he has now sired 21 Stakes performers including Gr.1-winning sprinter and sire Havana Grey and Group-winning sprinter Tabdeed, who recently sold for 110,000gns as a 6-year-old.
Havana Gold has enjoyed his best season to date with 28 individual 2-year-old winners including 10,000gns yearling turned dual Stakes winner Chipotle – a Royal Ascot winner who recently sold for 210,000gns – and Stakes winner Fearby, himself a bargain at 21,000gns as a yearling.
Champion older miler and Gr.1 Sussex Stakes winner Lightning Spear will remain at £5,000 (Oct 1st SLF). The Gr.1-winning son of Pivotal had an outstanding first crop of yearlings which averaged over four times his initial covering fee of £8,500.
Tweenhills’ owner David Redvers said: “We are extremely excited to welcome Zoustar back to Tweenhills for his fourth Northern Hemisphere covering season. He continues to enhance his already heady reputation and it is a real coup for European breeders to have such an exceptional young sire standing here again in 2022. His first European yearlings received extremely high reviews and were bought by some of the very best trainers, breeze-up consignors and agents from around the world.
“Kameko covered an outstanding first book of mares last year and it was fantastic to see him supported by some of the very best breeders in Europe. He proved extremely fertile throughout the season and is by far the most fertile stallion we have had stand at Tweenhills.
“Havana Gold’s much anticipated 2019 crop certainly lived up to expectations with 28 individual 2-year-old winners; in fact, currently no sire in Britain has sired more 2-year-old winners than him this year. Amongst those winners were Chipotle who won the very first juvenile race of the year, the Brocklesby Stakes, the Windsor Castle Stakes (Listed) at Royal Ascot and was still winning Stakes races in October.
“It was fantastic to see Lightning Spear’s first crop of yearlings so well received at the sales and with his improved fertility, his fee of £5,000 offers tremendous value for those wanting to use this exceptionally talented, tough and durable son of the now-retired Pivotal.”
Kameko, Havana Gold and Lightning Spear will be paraded for breeders at Longholes Stud in Newmarket during this year’s Tattersalls December Sales (Sunday 28th December to Wednesday 1st December)
For the 2022 season Tweenhills is proud to continue the ‘Your Success = Our Success’ scheme. Any breeder who produces a Stakes winner by a Qatar Racing-owned stallion at Tweenhills will be offered a credit for use with any Qatar Racing-owned stallion in the following year to the value of the nomination.
