Queen an emotional winner for Qatar Racing
There was a poignant winner for Qatar Racing at Newcastle on Saturday when our 3yo filly Queen Regent won a novice. She was born and raised at Tweenhills, and both her parents are sadly no longer with us.
From the only crop left behind by our world champion Roaring Lion, Queen Regent is out of Rainbow Quest mare Common Knowledge who passed away in May 2021 aged 21. Common Knowledge was a superstar mare as she produced three Group winners in sprinter Astrophysical Jet and milers Know It All and Coral Wave.
Know It All was also raced by Qatar Racing, winning the Gr.3 Derrinstown Stud Fillies Stakes and a close third in the Gr.1 Prix Rothschild. She is at Tweenhills and has a yearling filly by our 2000 Guineas winner Kameko.
Queen Regent had shown plenty at Kempton on her debut a fortnight earlier, just behind a subsequent winner, and she didn’t need to improve to get the job done at Newcastle for John and Thady Gosden and Cieren Fallon.
She showed the excellent attitude synonymous with Roaring Lion and his progeny, and while she won over a mile, she looks sure to appreciate a bit further, perhaps no surprise given her dam's sire.
We celebrated another winner over the weekend as Sheikh Fahad’s homebred 3yo Pearl Lord confirmed the promise of his debut to win over 1m1f at Hanshin. Pearl Lord is trained by Mitsu Nakauchida, as was his dam Pearl Code (Gr.1 runner-up) and Pearl Code’s 4yo filly Art House (won Gr.3 Aichi Hai last time).
