Slade Powers home in Darley July cup
The Eddie Lynam-trained five-year-old finished one and a half lengths clear of runner-up Tropics, who was a short-head in front of Gregorian. Qatar Racing's Hot Streak came home seventh of the 13 runners after getting into a promising position on the far rail with a furlong to run, but he could not maintain his effort from there to the line.
The winner's stablemate Sole Power, along with fancied Due Diligence and Fountain Of Youth were non-runners due to the rain-softened ground.
Qatar Racing enjoyed a winner at York, however, where two-year-old Flaming Spear put up a very impressive performance on his racing debut. Ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Kevin Ryan, he took a while to find top gear but left his rivals trailing in the final furlong, and recorded a quick time.
