The Kevin Ryan-trained three-year-old won his sole start at two, but failed to make a mark in the spring in either the Gr.3 Greenham Stakes or Gr.1 Poule d'Essai Des Poulains, won by Make Believe (Makfi).

Flaming Spear is reported to have strengthened over the summer and has been working well, although he faces a very good field at this level, even in the absence of Eagle Top, who has been declared a non-runner.

Sumbal, who was in hot form in the spring, runs at Longchamp today in the Gr.3 Prix du Prince d'Orange (15.10), while consistent sprinter Wind Fire lines up in Newbury's Gr.3 World Trophy Stakes (15.25). Meanwhile, in America, Peace And War tackles the Gr.1 Cotillion Stakes (21.50 UK time) for fillies.
