Gold Spinner won a three-year-old maiden over the extended mile at Cork on Saturday, showing plenty of improvement from his debut just over two weeks earlier.

Always well positioned under Colin Keane, the Ger Lyons-trained Gold Spinner struck for home two furlongs out and was always finding enough to hold off the favourite Born To Play, who'd made his own promising debut a week previously. In third was newcomer Famous Pearl who holds an Irish 1000 Guineas entry.

Gold Spinner may be by Pivotal out of the listed-winning sprinter Morinqua, but he was strong in the finish here and could stay a mile and a quarter in time. He looks a promising young colt.
