Ridden by Andrea Atzeni in the colours of Qatar Racing, the grey, three-year-old son of Danehill Dancer powered clear of two rivals in the final furlong to win convincingly. Favourite Epicuris was withdrawn after refusing to enter the starting stalls.

Entries for the Francis Graffard-trained Sumbal include the Gr.1 Prix du Jockey-Club on May 31, Royal Ascot's Gr.2 King Edward VII Stakes on June 19 and the Gr.1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris on July 14.

He was foaled by the Linamix mare Alix Road, who was placed in Group company over ten and 12 furlongs and who has also produced the Group Two-placed filly Lavender Lane.
