The Lir Jet wins the Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes
The Lir Jet, bought by Qatar Racing after his debut win, carried the claret and gold to success in the Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday.
The Lir Jet made a winning debut at Yarmouth on June 3, breaking the track record for five furlongs, and was snapped up privately by Sheikh Fahad ahead of lining up at Royal Ascot. The decision proved inspired as he came late to catch Golden Pal in the 12-runner Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes, the same race his sire Prince of Lir won in 2016.
The Lir Jet is trained by Michael Bell and gave Oisin Murphy his first Royal Ascot winner wearing the Qatar Racing colours. The ground was an unknown for The Lir Jet as his scintillating debut win had come on fast round, but, just like his sire, he proved that rain-softened conditions were no hindrance as he powered past the US-trained runner-up.
Lots of option are now open to The Lir Jet, including races like the Gr.1 Prix Morny, and he's a very exciting horse to have in our team.
