Warring and Peace in Sunday's Deutsches Derby
Warring States and Promise of Peace will both represent Qatar Racing in the Gr. 1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg on Sunday.
Andreas Wohler is set to saddle three runners in his bid for a fifth victory in the IDEE 148th Deutsches Derby this weekend, including Warring States (pictured) and Promise of Peace.
Neither colt was seen to best effect last time, with Warring States finding himself with a lot to do the way the Gr. 2 Oppenheim-Union-Rennen was run, eventually finishing fourth, and Promise of Peace badly hampered when a horse fell in front of him in the Listed Grosser Preis der Hannoverschen Volksbank.
The time before Warring States had stayed on well to beat the re-opposing trio of Enjoy Vijay, Kastano and Northsea Star in the Gr. 3 Bavarian Classic. while Promise of Peace had got off the mark at the fourth attempt.
Warring States has fared the better with the draw in the Deutsches Derby, in stall 4 of the 19 runners, whereas Promise of Peace will break from 15. Warring State is also the mount of stable jockey Eduardo Pedroza, who is looking for his first win in the Deutsches Derby.
Both colts, bred in Japan, should be suited by going another furlong to a mile and a half too, so we hope at least one of them puts up a very bold showing.
Trainer Markus Klug is doing an impression of Aidan O'Brien as he saddles no fewer than seven of the opposition, including Oppenheim-Union-Rennen winner Colomano.
