Winners keep coming for Qatar Racing
Four winners have carried the Qatar Racing silks already this month, including superstar sprint mare Caravel who blitzed the field in the Listed Sidney Stakes at Churchill Downs on Friday.
Last year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint heroine Caravel had already added the Gr.2 Shakertown Stakes to her already illustrious CV on April 8 and she made it four wins on the bounce in the $300,000 Sidney Stakes.
Back among her own sex in the Sidney, Caravel made short work of her quick work of her nine rivals under Tyler Gafallione for trainer Brad Cox. The 6yo mare looks every bit as good as ever and has many options open to her, including the Gr.1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, for her ownership group of Qatar Racing, Marc Detampel, and Madaket Stables.
Her trainer said: "Big run from this filly. She’s become very consistent. You can tell when she’s ready to run and she’s been on ‘go’ for a while since the month of March training up at Turfway and continuing on through April."
Her rider added: "She gets comfortable and it’s all easy for her. She’s just a very fast filly. The second you ask her, she turns on the jets. She finishes the job well."
Youalmosthadme had been purchased privately after her deeply impressive debut on April 19 and lived up to her star billing with a facile success in the Kentucky Juvenile Stakes (Black Type) at Churchill Downs on Thursday.
Youalmosthadme was sent off the heavily backed 1/5 favourite in the Kentucky Juvenile and never gave her supporters a moment’s worry as she cruised to success by 8¾ lengths.
The only filly in the race, Youalmosthadme kept things simple under Tyler Gafallione and was only briefly challenged into the far turn by eventual third Tranche. Youalmosthadme soon had that rival’s measure and won without really breaking sweat for Brad Cox.
Mount Mary won a maiden claimer at Golden Gates and, in France, Galileo filly Chasing The Sun got off the mark at Limoges and will now be a valuable broodmare prospect in time.
